The Spacer was originally designed to center a 45-RPM record single on the spindle of a record player. The 45-rpm was introduced in 1949 by RCA, and by the late 1950's it had overtaken the 78 as the main format for popular music. At the same time, rock and roll was experiencing an explosion in popularity, thanks in part to the 45. The 45 continued to be the dominant format for rock and roll well into the 1960's. The next few years were considered the early days of rock and roll, few knew that a small yellow piece of plastic would become an emblem of a time, a sound and a musical era. Produced for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and Museum by New York designer Cynthia Gale. Each piece is crafted by hand utilizing the ancient technique known as Lost-Wax casting. After casting, the Silver is formed into shapes and is polished by hand. Materials include .925 Sterling Silver. Rubber chain comes 17" or 20" long.
